Invisibly Straightening Your Teeth

Invisalign

One of the main hesitations people have about braces is how the metal brackets and wires impacts the aesthetic appearance of their smiles. Invisalign® offers a discreet, metal-free and effective system for aligning the smile.

Invisalign® is a series of clear, customized aligners that are designed to gradually straighten teeth. With Invisalign®, patients no longer need bands, brackets, or wires to fix crooked teeth or gaps in the mouth. The aligners are made of smooth, comfortable and nearly invisible plastic that fits over the teeth. Each set of aligners will be worn for about two weeks before being replaced with a new one, so you can continue to progress towards your desired smile.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

In-office 3D imaging creates a digital computer model of your teeth and jaws. The aligners themselves are then created from a strong, flexible and comfortable material.  Dr. Herrington will control the speed, direction, and sequence of teeth straightening. The straightening process is gradual and your treatment is divided into many stages of aligners.

The aligners should be worn for 22 hours a day, and every two weeks they need to be switched out with the next one in the series. Over a period of months, the aligners will slowly move teeth into place, making one minor adjustment at a time that is targeted to specific teeth. This helps keep you comfortable as your teeth are moved into position at a manageable pace. As you wear each set of aligners, your teeth will gradually shift until they reach their desired destination.

Benefits Of Invisalign®

  • A nearly invisible treatment

  • No metal brackets or wires to cause irritation

  • Eat and drink what you want, when you want, just remove Invisalign® first

  • Easy to remove for brushing, flossing and cleaning

  • A more comfortable treatment since the aligners move teeth into place slowly and only focus on a few teeth at a time

  • Patients often prefer wearing Invisalign® because of how convenient it is in comparison to wearing traditional braces

  • Aligners are easy to take care of, and you only use the same aligner for a couple of weeks before switching to a new one

What Can Invisalign® Correct?

Invisalign® corrects many of the same dental problems as traditional metal braces. Invisalign® has a few limitations and can’t fix a severe overbite or underbite, rotated teeth, large gaps, intrusions and extrusions.

Here are some problems that are commonly corrected with Invisalign®:

This occurs when there is too little space for the teeth to align normally in the mouth. Overcrowding can contribute to tooth decay and gum disease.

This can sometimes occur because teeth are missing or because the jaw continues to grow abnormally.

This common dental problem occurs when one or multiple upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth. As a consequence, uneven wear can lead to bone erosion and gum disease.

This problem occurs when the upper teeth project stick our further than, or almost or completely cover, the lower teeth. An overbite can lead to pain in the jaw and, eventually, even TMJ.

The opposite of an overbite, an underbite occurs when the lower teeth protrude further than or completely cover the upper teeth.
